History of

The history of EIDE stretches back over 55 years. From homemade pens in Skogseidvatnet to commercial locations from Hardanger to Nordfjord, our history is driven by innovation, creativity and courage.

1972—1978
Knut Johan Eide, first generation salmon farmer, starts farming of rainbow trout and salmon in Skogseidvatnet

Knut Frode Eide, second generation salmon farmer, extended his farming activity to sea.

The following year, Eide Fjordbruk was founded

Eide Fjordbruk is named this years "Gasellebedrift", and Sondre Eide takes over as CEO.

With Sondre in the bow, Eide Fjordbruk intensifies its focus on R&D and new technology. All in the goal of becoming the salmon farmer to set the standard for the future of aquaculture.

Salmon Eye is Unveiled

Eide Fjordbruk keeps up the work of setting the standard for the future of aquaculture. Salmon Eye is an exhibition center for the aquaculture industry and serves as a monument for sustainable food production in the fjord.

The new Launches Watermoon, setting the standard for future aquaculture.

Watermoon is an integrated platform for sustainable food production in the sea; a submersible, closed system that revolutionizes aquaculture by ensuring fish welfare, waste management and protection of marine ecosystems.

We have sea sites, juvenile fish and processing facilities, visitor center, offices and r&d initiatives from Hardanger to Nordfjord.

Torvneset

Integrated aquaculture in Nordfjord, circular economy in practice. Cultivate mussels on dissolved nutrient salts (organic matter, phosphorus and nitrogen) from salmon production in the area, including from Hundvika.

Sundal

At Sundal in Kvinnherad municipality, I produce organic smolt. With soft good water from Folgefonna and Bondhusvatnet and a brand new and modern facility, the team has the best practices for a good salmon run

Exhibition center in the heart of Hardangerfjorden. Home to michelin starred restaurant Iris.

Hisdalen and Hondskår at Varaldsøy in Hardangerfjorden are two of the oldest localities in Eide. Here Jostein and his team produce salmon with very good results. With a combination of good conditions and long experience, they have won a wide range of prices for the production here.

At Isane, we conduct research on new feed materials in close cooperation with NMBU and VI and research on new technologies together with Fjord Miljø and Møreforsk. The site is equipped with its own field laboratory and is important for Eide's R&D work.
