History of EIDE
The history of EIDE stretches back over 55 years. From homemade pens in Skogseidvatnet to commercial locations from Hardanger to Nordfjord, our history is driven by innovation, creativity and courage.

The following year, Eide Fjordbruk was founded

“The most important thing is to have fun!”
Knut Frode Eide (1959-2018), Second generation salmon farmer
With Sondre in the bow, Eide Fjordbruk intensifies its focus on R&D and new technology. All in the goal of becoming the salmon farmer to set the standard for the future of aquaculture.

“When dad died in 2018 after a long illness, it was strange to feel such emptiness—like losing someone who truly understood me, guided me, and with whom I could talk about anything. It was as if a vital connection to knowledge had been broken. He taught me to be fearless, to always follow my own path, take chances, and to understand that our most valuable resources are the people around us—think differently and never, never give up”
Sondre, CEO of Eide Fjordbruk
Eide Fjordbruk keeps up the work of setting the standard for the future of aquaculture. Salmon Eye is an exhibition center for the aquaculture industry and serves as a monument for sustainable food production in the fjord.

Watermoon is an integrated platform for sustainable food production in the sea; a submersible, closed system that revolutionizes aquaculture by ensuring fish welfare, waste management and protection of marine ecosystems.

"He who dares to venture, wins." That was dad's mantra, repeated until it stuck with me. Dad built Eide by risking everything he owned. He did it not for his own safety, but to build something greater. Now it’s our turn. Standing still is not just failing, it’s disappearing.
Eide is not just a company. We are on a mission to set the standard for the future of aquaculture. Through 55 years of biological curiosity and an uncompromising pursuit of innovation, we create solutions that can tackle one of the world’s biggest challenges: producing more food with a smaller footprint in the ocean.
The future is not discovered, it is created. By those who are curious, collaborative, and always unafraid to push the boundaries of what is possible."
Sondre Eide, 3rd generation salmon farmer
